On June 07, 2020, the German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said, U.S. troops stationed on German soil are there “in the interest of both our countries” following reports that Donald Trump’s significant plans, describing current relations with Washington as “complicated.”
American soldiers have been ever present in Europe dating back from after the Second World War and have long served aa symbol of Washington’s commitment to protecting its European allies — particularly acting as a deterrent to Russian aggression. A report on Friday also suggested that the U.S. president plans to reduce the force stationed to around 25,000 down by 30 percent, . Confirmation from Pentagon is awaited.

Maas had previously criticized Trump over his response to mass protests in the U.S. following the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, while in police custody.
Maas also told Bild, that he believed it would be wrong to threaten further violence already existing tense situation. “Democrats should always reconcile and not divide.” EU-China summit which was due to take place in September in Leipzig, was postponed last week, The German foreign minister expressed hope of it happening later this year.
