The U.K. Labour Party on Tuesday canceled its annual conference due to coronavirus and instead will hold a series of online events.
Labour’s National Executive Committee agreed to cancel the conference, which was due to be held in Liverpool between September 19 and 23, becoming the first U.K. party in taking this step.
A party spokeswoman said Tuesday: “Our priority is the safety of members, staff and visitors to our events and the need to protect the public’s health. In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have therefore decided to postponed this year’s annual and women’s conferences.”
The conference is the party’s main policy-setting event, and this year’s would have been the first since KeirStarmer took over the party leadership from Jeremy Corbyn.
