Hot weather in Estonia this June has ripened strawberries and the time of the sale of the red treats has begun after the midsummer solstice.
On Thursday, June 25, the Otsa farm, in northern Estonia, saw its best daily harvest of the year – 50 kilograms of strawberries, ETV’s daily affairs show Aktuaalne kaamera reported.
The owners of the farm, Milvi and Valdur, commented that the first harvest of the year 2020 came on June 21: “We got a couple tens of kilograms of berries before Jaanipäev (Midsommer festival). That was a surprise for us”. The farmers added that in the unusual conditions the berries ripen too quickly and stay small.
In marketplaces in Estonian cities, the price of varies quite a lot. In Rakvere, close to Otsa farm, the average price is 7 euros per kg. A kilogram of strawberries at Tartu costs 4 euros per kg and in Tallinn, the price is 5.5 euros per kg.
