Latvia’s government needs to deal with uncertainties with wage increase topics. This topic should not be addressed at the last moment, said Latvia’s Prime Minister

According to amendments developed by Education and Science Ministry, the lowest monthly wage rate for a professor in Latvia is EUR 1 569, for an associated professor it is EUR 1 256, for lecturers it is EUR 805 and for assistants it is EUR 641, with rates influenced by base expenditures of universities.

At the same time, it is also planned to increase wage rates for other workers of universities and colleges.

Following the ruling coalition’s meeting during which the government reached an agreement on the funding source to afford increasing wages for higher education institution teachers, LIZDA decided to cancel the protest originally planned for 18 August.
